«I love the Nürburgring!»
Maxime Martin has confirmed his close relationship with the Nürburgring by taking a second DTM win. The result of a perfect day, which unfortunately could not be repeated on Sunday: then the BMW-driver of the RACB National Team had to be happy with 13th.
Martin likes the Nürburgring, that's for sure. On Saturday he took second in qualifying and from that position on the front row he stormed to the win. His first of the season, the second in his career after winning in Moscow last year.
"I had a good start", the driver of the RACB National Team says. "The key moment came in the first corner, when I was able to take the lead." Even though there was a contact with polesitter Wehrlein. "Some laps into the race, the race was redflagged. The second start gave me no problems and I could hang on to the lead. Afterwards I managed to create a gap, especially since the drivers behind me were fighting amongst each other. Nobody could really threaten my position. I am very happy to get this result for BMW, especially since the second M4 at the finish was only in 7th."
On Sunday Martin had to sing a different song: he qualified in 16th and finished in 13th.
"Once again we were confronted with a problem that has existed since the start of the season: the inconsistency of the tires", Martin explains. "My first set was perfect and I set a fourth time. But the second had a complete lack of grip and I had to struggle with a car of which the set-up of the day before had not changed one bit! I could not get higher than 16th and finished in 13th."
Two races remain for Maxime Martin, during the DTM Season Finale in Hockenheim, on October 16-18.
