«A difficult weekend»
Retirement in the first race, tenth position in the second: Maxime Martin did not get the results he hoped for this weekend at the Norisring. The representative of the RACB National Team hopes to erase these disappointing results during the next meeting in Zandvoort, in two weeks’ time.
The third round of the 2015 DTM, in the heart of Nuremberg, met all expectations. As is the case every year, thousands of spectators filled the grandstands along the 2300m long Norisring.
“I don’t have the exact figures, but I know the place was completely sold out”, Maxime Martin explains. “It is very pleasant to drive in front of packed grandstands.” “But on a track that is covered in fifty-something seconds during qualifying, differences are obviously very small”, the Belgian representative in the DTM continues. “Since we suffered from brake problems all weekend long, our performances suffered as well.”
During qualifying for the first race, the Belgian set a 14th time. In the race he had to retire in the second lap.
“After a contact with Edoardo Mortara a pushrod broke and retirement was inevitable”, Martin explains.
For the second race on Sunday, Maxime Martin set the 9th qualifying time and crossed the finish line in tenth.
“It was a difficult weekend, the brake problems were a real setback. The rear wheels often blocked when braking. I still managed to score a point however and on Sunday I was second of the BMW drivers, both in qualifying and in the race. I am however already looking forward to the next meeting in Zandvoort, in two weeks’ time.”
