«I was very unlucky»
Maxime Martin particularly unfortunate during the DTM-raceweekend in Oschersleben. On a track where it is difficult to overtake, the representative of the RACB National Team was harshly penalised by his lesser performances during qualifying.
"I don't think I will keep good memories from Oschersleben", Martin said after the Oschersleben races. "I am pretty disappointed about my performances, especially since some BMW-drivers managed to perform well during the two races."
The high level of the competition made it imperative for the drivers to get a perfect lap during qualifying. On Saturday, for the first race, that did not work well for Martin. "I have to admit that I made a small mistake in my fast lap. That cost me some three tenths and dropped me to 12th on the grid. In the race I hit the back of a car in the first corner, breaking the splitter of my M4. The car was a lot less efficient after that and I finished in 11th, just outside of the points."
And on Sunday, during the second of the qualifying session, Martin had it tough as well. "I was in a quick lap and about to improve my lap time by at least two tenths of a second, when I was confronted with a yellow flag. Because these qualifying tyres are at their peak for only two laps, I was unable to improve after that and had to start from 15th."
This time the Belgian did have a good start and quickly he was in 9th. Unfortunately, bad luck struck again.
"During the pitstop one of the wheel guns jammed. When I got back on the circuit, I got stuck in traffic. But even then, I managed to overtake some cars, which is not bad on this track, to eventually finish in 9th."
